Campus Ministry
- Habitat for Humanity Mercyhurst College Chapter
Mercyhurst College has its own Habitat for Humanity on
campus chapter. The chapter is led by a student board
and an adviser. Stefanie Steinmetz is president and Amanda Zechman , on campus adviser. You may reach the adviser at
azechman@mercyhurst.eduor (814) 824-2549, and the
student board at mchabitat4humanity@yahoo.com.
The
chapter is responsible for the well known “alternative
spring break.” Once a year a group of at least 25
students spend their spring break building houses for
Habitat for Humanity. A great bonus is that we spend
our spring break in a warm climate state such as
Florida , Georgia or Alabama . The usual cost of the trip for individuals is around $200.00.
The chapter also coordinates the Saturday morning
work sites. In conjunction with Habitat
International's local affiliate, a group of at least six
students join local volunteers to build houses for
greater Erie area. This activity is recognized as
Service Learning and can be use to fulfill the class
requirement of 10 hours. Usually two Saturday
mornings will fulfill 10 hours of community service.
The honors program, in the past, has recognized the
Spring Break trip as a valuable activity. For more
information on Habitat for Humanity on Campus Chapter
