Marketing and Public Relations
- Policies & Procedures
Consistency and Standardization
The marketing and public relations department is responsible for maintaining college standards for design as well as monitoring the quality of printed materials and the campus’ Web presence. All publications that may be viewed by outside audiences – regardless of the origin of the publication or the budget to which it is charged – must meet college standards for design and style. Major college publications – particularly student recruitment and fundraising pieces – should be channeled through our department for consistency reviews and proofreading for standardization.
Exceptions to this policy are publications produced by student organizations, advising manuals, and other internal publications. However, anyone producing any type of publication may certainly use our office for proofreading.
In addition, all content posted to the Mercyhurst Web site must be proofed and reviewed for accuracy and consistency by the marketing and public relations office. Visit the web policies and procedures page for more information.

Graphic Standards
To assure the quality and consistency of the college's image, we follow a set of guidelines that govern the use of the college's logotype, the seal and graphic and editorial standards.
Official College Logos

The official Pantone Colors for Mercyhurst College are 541 blue and 561 green.
College Seal
As the official identification of Mercyhurst College, the seal is reserved for publications such as diplomas, commencement programs, academic certificates, and other formal publications. For exceptions or if you have questions, please contact Sheila Coon at ext. 3315. The seal is available in both a black and white and a color version.
Athletics Logo

The official logo of the Mercyhurst College athletic department is a large, block M. For a high-quality version of the M and permission for its use, contact John Leisering in the Sports Information office.
Editorial Standards
The publications office will review your final draft for style, grammar, punctuation and consistency. There is an established guide for capitalization, punctuation, etc., to be used in all Mercyhurst publications and we will edit your material to conform. Uniform style provides a measure of consistency for our audiences.
The publications staff is responsible for the quality of writing in Mercyhurst publications; therefore, we may make minor stylistic changes as well. The style section of this manual, which highlights frequently used style rules, will facilitate the preparation of publications. For a more complete guide, refer to the Associated Press Stylebook. This and other style manuals are available in our office. If you have a particular question about style, you may call our office and we will provide an answer for you. Before submitting your copy to the publications office, you should check it carefully for the spelling of names, correct titles, dates, etc. Because the publications office cannot verify the factual accuracy of copy, those submitting information must assume that responsibility.
