Online Registration Tips

WONDERING HOW TO REGISTER ONLINE... JUST FOLLOW THESE TIPS

  1. Access WebAdvisor at https://webadvisor.mercyhurst.edu
  2. Log in with your ID and password.
  3. Choose WebAdvisor for Students.
  4. Choose Register for Classes.

(Remember: if you have NOT MET WITH YOUR ADVISOR you will be unable to register)

  • You will be offered a choice of registration methods: Express Registration or Search and Register. We suggest you use Express Registration. The Search and Register option is needed when registering for classes with credit ranges. (Ex. Music and Dance)
  • The Express Registration screen will have 6 fields in column format (see example below):

SYNONYM    SUBJECT   COURSE#   SECTION#    TERM   TAKE FOR

Assume you are registering for ART-110-01 (this is just an example)

      • Synonym – leave blank; this is not used for registering
      • Subject – a dropdown menu to choose subject, choose ART
      • Course # - fill in the course number 110
      • Section# - fill in the section number 01
      • Term – choose the current term for which you are registering – (i.e. 08/WI)
      • Take For – choose C for Credit
    • Follow the same procedure for each subsequent course
    • Click on the Submit Button (ONLY ONCE) after entering all your courses. Double clicking on the button will cancel your registration
    • Your schedule results will display. Please be aware your current term will appear as well as the term for which you are registering. This screen will always display all courses that have not yet been graded / transcripted
    • The total number of credits for which you are registered will appear in a small table at the lower left corner of this screen. Make sure it matches your registration slip!
    • If you are not registered for a particular class for which you are trying to register, you will receive a message at either the top of the schedule list or within the list itself.

 

Please check the messages on the registration screen

They alert you to successful or failed registration transactions

  • Any of these failed messages will prohibit you from completing your registration online
  • This will require intervention from the various points of origin (i.e. faculty advisor, Student Financial Services, etc.) to correct the problem and ultimately registration in person in the Office of the Registrar (100 M).


Description of possible error messages posted at the top of screen:

  • You have not met with your advisor and not been identified to register by your advisor.
    • You do not have ADVISOR APPROVAL for registration. Please see your advisor!
  • You have a Hold (i.e. Business Office).
    • Registration requires a visit to the Office of Student Financial Services (115 M).
  • You have been Suspended or Academically Dismissed.
    • Registration requires visit to the Office of Academic Affairs (100 M).
  • You are registered for a class that has a co-requisite (Lab).
    • Ex: EDUC 174-01 has a co requisite of EDUC 175-01.
    • This is only a notice. It will still allow you to register.
    • It is your responsibility to register for all co-requisite courses.
  • The course has reached capacity.
    • The enrollment has reached capacity. The course is closed.
    • It is full, try another section or another course.
    • Use one of your alternates listed on your registration form.
  • You have registered for too many credits.
    • This course puts you in overload.
    • Petition is required to register.
    • Go see the Assistant Vice President for Academic Services (212 M).

 

Within the schedule – following messages indicate registration has failed.

  • You have not met prerequisites.
    • Requirements for this course have not been met.
  • Course Requires Instructor Permission.
    • Instructor’s permission is required for this course. See instructor to get signature and register for this class in the Registrar’s Office (106 M).
  • You are registering for an Honors course and not currently a member of the Honors program.
    • Only HONORS students may register for section 88 courses.
  • You are in an undergrad program registering for grad classes or vice versa.
    • You may not register for courses in this academic level.
  • You are trying to register in a course identified for Seniors and/or Juniors only.
    • This class is for Jr/Sr Status only.
    • If not a Jr/Sr, you must obtain instructor permission and then register in the Registrar’s Office.

 

If you are registering for courses that have a 0.00 to 3.00 credit range. . .

  • Courses must be entered individually under the Search and Register option.
  • Music and Dance courses have credit ranges.
Search and Register Option:


The information on the Search and Register screen has a different field layout.

  • Example – Register for MUS-145-04
    • Term – Enter Term for which you are registering
    • Subject – Enter the Subject MUS
    • Course Number – 145
    • Section Number – 04
    • All other fields on that screen should be left blank

    then hit Submit ONCE ONLY.

  • The returning screen will ask you to confirm your choice.
  • Please check the box for “Select Courses” as well as the other two boxes .
    1. “Take For” (enter C for credit)
    2. “Creds” (used to enter the number of credits for which you are registered)
  • After completing the fields, click the submit button ONLY ONCE.
  • A new screen will appear listing your registered classes and any related information, just as it did with Express Registration.

 

Print your schedule screen so you can verify the classes for which you have registered



Students who choose not to register online using WebAdvisor may register in person

in the Registrars Office at the assigned date/time published in the schedule - Main 106
