Faculty Senate

Purpose

The first purpose of this Faculty Senate is to serve as the mechanism for the faculty’s participation in the process of college governance. This body will also provide the President and the Board of Trustees with the leadership, guidance, assistance, and advice needed from the faculty for the College to fulfill its stated purposes and objectives. The Faculty Senate exercises recommending power. Final decision-making authority rests with the legal incorporators of the College, the Board of Trustees, and its representative, the President of the College.

All full-time faculty are members of the Faculty Senate.

The Faculty Senate has the authority to initiate, review, and recommend policies to the College president with regard to faculty issues, academic policies, campus life, library, and administrative practices and operations which affect the academic environment.

The Faculty Senate recommends policy on:

  • Standards of appointment, promotion and tenure
  • Salary and fringe benefits
  • Faculty evaluation
  • Professional conduct of faculty
  • Curriculum assessment
  • Academic policies and regulations
  • Library operations
  • Campus computing and technology
  • Campus Life and the academic environment
  • Faculty research and professional development
