What are the Recreation Center Rules and Regulations?
Rules
Recognizing the importance of physical fitness and regular exercise, Mercyhurst College supports the use of the campus recreation center for students, student-athletes, faculty, administration, staff and alumni. However, certain rules and regulations must still be followed by every individual who uses the college’s recreation center.
The regulations for the use of the Mercyhurst College Recreation Center:
- In compliance with the Mercyhurst College admittance policy, a validated student I.D. card is required and must be presented each time a member enters the facility.
- The recreation facilities and the times they are available for use are posted on schedules throughout the Center. Gymnasiums and other areas may be reserved for specific activities at selected times. These schedules will be posted around the facility.
- Recreation schedule changes for the week will be posted at the entrance to the Center.
- Each section of the facility has a posted set of rules and regulations. All members must adhere to these guide lines.
- All workouts are performed at the member's own risk.
- The College cannot be held responsible for valuables brought into the recreation center.
- Smoking is not permitted in the Mercyhurst College Recreation Center.
- All guests must be accompanied by their Sponsors at all times.
- No Fitness Center property may be removed from the facility. Fines will be assessed for any lost or missing items.
- For your convenience, a building supervisor is on duty at all times. Any questions regarding the facilities or programs can be directed to the supervisor.
Daily Usage Procedures
- You must present a valid Mercyhurst ID card to be admitted into the REC.
- You must bring a change of shoes
We expect you to wear your street shoes to the Gym and change into your work out shoes after you sign-in.
- No Food, Drink (other than water) or Tobacco Products are permitted in the work-out areas.
- Follow all weight room rules and procedures.
- Wipe down Aerobic or Exercise machines when finished.
(Do not spray the machines directly. Spray the towels first, then wipe the machine down)
- Shoes must be worn at all times.
- We are not responsible for anything lost or stolen in this building.
- No horseplay.
- All guests must be accompanied by their Student or staff host.
Failure to comply with these rules will result in loss of Recreation Center privileges.
Emergency Procedures
In case of injury or other emergency, please go to the front desk and the staff member will contact the Supervisor on duty immediately. The work-study on duty and/or the supervisor will know the appropriate steps to take in the case of emergencies. First Aid Kits are located in the Recreation Supervisor’s Office, and there is also the Athletic Training Room in the basement of the Mercyhurst Athletic Center in the case of emergencies or injuries requiring immediate attention.
Documentation
In the case of injury or general misconduct the supervisor on duty is required to document the incident. The supervisor must confront each staff member involved in the situation, as well as any students involved or witnessing the incident. Documentation of misconduct must be turned into the Head of Discipline so the correct action can be taken. In the case of injury, the documentation must be turned into the Director of the Recreation Center.
Regulations
Who is Eligible to Use the Center
Admission to the Mercyhurst College Fitness Center is available to all full and part-time Mercyhurst College students with valid student identification, as well as to Mercyhurst College faculty, administration and alumni. In order to gain access to the Mercyhurst College Recreation Center, all faculty, administration, and staff with a valid Mercyhurst College I.D.
Guest Policy
Famlily Members of Employees
- Only immediate family members are allowed
- The employee must be present with and sign family members into the center
- The employee must remain at the center to supervise and be responsible for their children. If the employee leaves the center, the children have to leave together with the employee.
- Employee's children may not bring friends.
- The employee is responsible for the actions of their family members.
Friends of Students
- Each student is allowed to bring ONE guest only at a time.
- Guests may use the Recreational Center on a limited basis.
- The student must remain at the center and be responsible for their friend. If the student leaves the center, the friend has to leave together with the student.
- The student is responsible for the actions of his or her guest.
